This is the final video in a series where I’m teaching you everything you need to know about food sensitivities! So far you’ve learned a lot! We’ve covered what is a food sensitivity, the symptoms of food sensitivities, how sensitivities differ from food allergies and intolerances as well as what actually causes food sensitivities. I’m sure you’ve been eagerly anticipating today’s video where I teach you exactly how to identify your food sensitivities through a simple dietary approach called an elimination diet.
The elimination diet is designed so the most common food sensitivities are avoided in your diet for a period of 11 to 21 days, a time frame I think anyone can manage to do! This allows the body to calm any inflammation occurring in response to those foods and to allow your symptoms to resolve. Most people feel amazing during the elimination phase of an elimination diet! For many people it’s the first time their diet hasn’t been triggering all of the symptoms and inflammation they’re so used to experiencing on a chronic basis.
Once they’ve completed the elimination phase, my patients are typically feeling fabulous! Our goal is now to identify which of the foods we had removed from their diet is the one that has actually been causing their concerns. For most people it’s definitely not all of the foods that have been avoided, so we want to identify which ones are actually the cause of your symptoms so you can go back to enjoying as many foods as possible in your diet while still feeling amazing!
When we reintroduce the foods that were avoided during the elimination diet we bring back one new food every three days. As we discussed in video number one, food sensitivities cause a delayed immune reaction with symptoms presenting up to 72 hours after the ingestion of a particular food. We need to make sure you’re allowing enough time after testing a new food for those symptoms to develop before determining whether the food is either safe or a source of inflammation for you. One at a time you’re going to reintroduce the new foods while keeping very good track of your symptoms and watching for how each food affects your health.
